Board terms are available for two and three year commitments. Board members may be re-elected for successive terms.

Each Board Member is required to participate with a minimum of one committee. Committee meetings are held monthly. Board Meetings are held monthly for the first three months, then quarterly with one board retreat per year.
To support organizational health and lead by example in interests, the Board Members are required to join as a PACK Member (at any monthly dollar amount), and asked to commit to bringing in a minimum $5000/year, whether by way of charitable solicitation or donation.
Commitment to the Mission
We are a mission-driven organization and the strength of our organization depends on the Board members being behind that mission 100%. Currently, our mission is stated as promoting responsible breed ownership through education, programming, and assistance. We support our mission through our community programs in the following ways:
Reducing the euthanasia rate of adoptable animals by combatting misaligned breed stereotypes and through spay/neuter initiatives to reduce overpopulation
Utilizing rescued pit bull-type dogs to combat PTSD in the veteran community
Decreasing the euthanasia rate by working with owners experiencing life changes or dogs with rehabilitative behavioral concerns
Providing education to promote public safety and compassionate care
Providing services to canines with families in low-income areas, such as spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, preventives, nutrition, and fences for chained dogs
APBF Board Members are expected to strive to uphold the following responsibilities:
- Being well versed in the organization's mission, purpose, and four community programs.
- Making the American Pit Bull Foundation one of your top charitable priorities.
- Using best efforts to attend all Board meetings in person, and if unable to attend in person, will use best efforts to attend virtually.
- Using best efforts to participate in all, but at least one, major APBF event a year (e.g. RescueMe 5k, donor appreciation events, and volunteer appreciation events.
- Siting on, engaging with, and actively participating on at least one Committee.
- Making a personal financial commitment at the highest level of ability annually by joining the PACK.
- Participating in fundraising in the following ways: Solicit, Cultivate, Stewardship
▪ Assist in identifying, and introducing where appropriate, prospects and potential new donors;
▪ Participate in cultivating prospects and donors;
▪ Participate in the donor stewardship process
▪ Host at least one cultivation event a year.
- Being an active ambassador of APBF by using your reach to benefit the organization by sharing with others your personal reasons for supporting APBF.
- Continually and actively seeking to identify new potential Board and Committee members demonstrating the skills and qualifications necessary to ensure good Board succession.
- Prioritizing your Board service by being responsive to APBF board members and staff—this includes returning calls and emails within 48 hours, participating in 1:1 meetings with the Executive Director as needed, completing the annual Board Survey, and staying current with meeting materials and calendar updates.
